既製品のハンカチに刺繍をしたいけど、裏側はどうするんだろう？丁度良い大きさのハンカチが無いなど、問題点は沢山ありますよね。
そんな時は布からハンカチを作ってみてはいかがでしょうか？
難しそうなイメージがありますが、簡単さと丈夫さを第一に考えた作り方なので、簡単にオリジナルハンカチが作れますよ。
初心者でも楽しく作れる！刺繍のハンカチを作ってみよう！
刺繍はこれと言った図案が無くても、自分で描いたイラストや文字を元に作る事ができます。
イラストや絵に自信が無い方もシンプルなものでも味が出ますよ。
刺繍には色んなステッチがありますが、今回はサテンステッチを主にハンカチに刺繍をしていきたいと思います。
サテンステッチはその名前の摂り仕上がりがサテンの様な高級感と存在感がある技法です。ストレートステッチと組み合わせる事でより作品がイキイキとしてきますよ。
それともう一つ、色とりどりの刺繍糸から好みのカラーを見つけるのも楽しみの一つです。
あえて似たカラーを組み合わせてグラデーションにするのも美しくなりますよ。
刺繍のハンカチを作るのに必要なものや材料は？
道具はどれも100円ショップでで調達できるものです。
刺繍の道具はどれもお手頃で揃えられるので初期費用も少なくて済みますよ。
小学生の頃の手芸セットに含まれているものばかりなので、既に家にある物も多いのではないでしょうか。
それでは一つずつご紹介していきますね。
ハンカチになる布
今回は25センチ角を2枚用意します。
白地に刺繍をして、チェック柄の方を裏地にします。
色、柄はお好みで大丈夫ですが、刺繍をする布は柄が薄いものがおすすめです。
装飾用のリボン
ハンカチが完成して小さく折りたたんだ面にリボンを付けます。
こちらもお好みの色や柄で結構なので、無くても大丈夫です。
刺繍糸
刺繍糸は色んなメーカーから多くのカラーが販売されているので、購入する時はどれにしようか迷ってしまいますよ。
今回はくまといちごのモチーフを刺繍していくので、こちらの7色を使います。
針
刺繍針と綿縫い針、まち針があると仕上げの時に便利です。
刺繍枠
こちらがあると作業がしやすいです。
今回はハンカチに刺繍をするので、直径12センチのものを使用します。
用途に合わせて色んな大きさのものが販売されていますよ。
チャコペンシル
刺繍の下絵を描くのに使います。
チャコペンシルは時間が経つと自然と消えるタイプが主流ですが、水で落ちるものもあります。
ハサミ
糸を切る時に使います。
手芸用でなくても文房具ハサミでも大丈夫ですよ。
以上が今回使用する道具です。
写真にはありませんがミシンがあると良いですね。
刺繍糸の色味で作品の感じが変わるので、店頭で実物を見てイメージを膨らませましょう。
刺繍のハンカチの作り方
刺繍のハンカチの作りやすい順番をご説明していきます。
下絵→刺繍→飾り→仕上げの順番で進んでいくので、基本を覚えたらハンカチ以外のものにも挑戦できますよ。
下絵を描いていきます
今回はくまといちごを刺繍していきます。刺繍をする生地にチャコペンで下絵を描いていきましょう。
この時の注意点はできるだけ丁寧に下絵を書く事です。
この通りに刺繍をするので、絵が歪んでいると刺繍も歪んでしまいますよ。
ですが、くまの表情やいちごの種の粒などは刺繍をして行くと見えなくなってしまうので、省略しても大丈夫です。
慣れてきたら細かい部分は省略した方が分かりやすいですよ。
刺繍します
下絵の線から線に対して真っ直ぐにサテンステッチをしきます。
サテンステッチはしている内に曲がったり歪んだりしやすいので注意が必要です。
くまの顔部分と耳部分は別々に刺繍をすると綺麗に仕上がりますよ。
特に色が変わる部分（くまの口元やいちごのへた分部など）は隙間が空いてしまいがちなので、しっかりと間を詰めて刺繍をしていきます。
基本的にサテンステッチ部分は2本取り、くまの表情といちごの種は6本取りで刺繍します。
強調させたい部分は糸の本数を増やすのが良いですね。
くまの鼻といちごの種は3回巻きのフレンチノットステッチです。
今回は全て同じ表情のくまにしましたが、違う表情に刺繍してみるのも遊び心がある面白い作品になりますよ。
飾りリボンを付けます
刺繍をし終わったら、飾りリボンを付けます。
今回はピンクのサテンリボンですが、作品のイメージに合わせて色を変えたり柄物のリボンにしても良いでしょう。
ミシンで仕上げます
刺繍をした面と裏の布の表面を内側に合わせて塗っていきます。
ミシンをかけたり、形に仕上げる時に縫う際はこの様に表面を内側にするので、裏表逆にならない様に注意します。
縫い代は1センチ開けましょう。あまりにもギリギリに縫い過ぎると、縫い目からほつれてくるのでゆとりを持って仕上げます。
全て縫うのではなく、画像の様に５センチほど縫わずに開けておきます。
縫い終わったら開けておいた所から表側に返します。
四隅が埋もれてしまいやすいので、しっかりと布の形を整えましょう。
最後に仕上げのステッチをして完成です。この時に先ほど裏返した穴をきちんと縫い付けます。
2枚布を使っているので、刺繍の裏処理を気にする事もありませんし、1枚布よりは丈夫に仕上がっています。
完成しました。
刺繍のハンカチを作るときのコツは？
刺繍はシンプルな分、コツをつかむと仕上がりがとても美しくなります。
最初は難しいと感じても、何度も繰り返している内に容量が分かってきますよ。
ステッチのコツと、下描きや印付けの際のコツ2つをご紹介します。
サテンステッチは重ならない様に
サテンステッチは刺繍の基本的な技法です。
糸と糸が重ならない様にするのが大事ですが、隙間があってもいけません。針を出す位置と刺す位置をよく考えましょう。
また、糸を引っ張る強さも強過ぎると布がよれてしまいますし、緩過ぎても刺繍面が綺麗になりません。
サテンステッチの上から刺繍をする時は、下のサテンステッチ部分の糸が割れてしまう事があるので、糸の引っ張り方や刺す位置の配慮がいります。
下絵の前に大まかな印付けを
今回はハンカチの前面に 刺繍を施すので、下絵を描く所に目印を打っておきます。
こうする事でバランスがとれるので、最初にしておきましょう。
ひし形（ダイヤ型）になる様に印をつけるとバランス良いですよ。
部分的な刺繍の時でも目印を打っておくと全体のイメージが掴みやすいです。
初心者の方は、仕上げのミシンの縫い代部分にも線を引いておくとうっかり端まで刺繍してしまう事が防げるので安心です。
刺繍のハンカチを作るときに気を付けること・注意点
ついうっかりミスでやり直しになったり、材料を無駄にしてしまうのはハンドメイドではよくある事です。
この様なミスをしながら上達していくものですが、知識を付けておけばこんなミスも減らせますよ。
必ずチャコペンで下絵を書く
チャコペンは洋裁や手芸の基本道具ですし、消耗品なのでいくつあっても良いものです。
どうして普通のペンや鉛筆ではいけないの?と思われるかもしれません。
書いた面が裏側になり見えないのであれば鉛筆でも大丈夫なのですが、刺繍の様に表側に書く時はチャコペンがおすすめです。
その理由は鉛筆などで印をしてしまうと、洗濯をしても落ちないのでいつまでも作品に線が残ってしまうからです。
消そうとすると中々大変で生地を傷める事になってしまいますよ。
チャコペンならば時間が経てば自然に消え、急いでいる時は水で濡らせば何も残りません。
端2センチは開けておく
ハンカチ以外の作品を作る時にも言える事ですが、端ギリギリまで刺繍をすると仕上げの時に縫い代が無くなります。
刺繍の図柄が途中で切れてしまう事になるので、布の端2センチはゆとりを持っておきましょう。
縫い代は意外と見落とされがちですが、これをきちんと見ておかないと作品のサイズが小さくなり過ぎてしまいます。
作りたい大きさプラス2センチ縫い代を見ておくのがおすすめですよ。
飾りはミシンの前につける
リボンなどの飾りを付けたい時はミシンでの仕上げの前に付けておきましょう。
その後に付けてしまうと、縫い付けた部分が裏側から見えてしまいます。

ハンカチは大きさも手ごろで全面にも部分的にも刺繍をする面が選べます。
前面に刺繍をしてオリジナリティを出しても良いですし、ワンポイントに入れてさりげなく個性を主張するのも良いですね。
家に余り生地があるならば、眠らせておくのではなくハンドメイド刺繍ハンカチにしてはいかがでしょうか?
生地は使わなくなったシーツでも代用可能ですよ。
